New Year's Day 2012 brought 40 degree weather and an impromptu hike around Newfound Lake. The boys, romping like puppies in a pack, raced ahead in only t-shirts, then meandered back to their sister and me, only to charge ahead a second later. We laced Newfound Lake with pebbles, providing wishes and dreams for the new year as well as ripples that disappeared into the fog. Little sister managed to scale slippery rocks without incident, only asking for a ride at the very end. We collected muddied walking sticks, using them both for balance and writing tools. We wandered back to the car via Wellingston State Park, enjoying the settling calm and peace of an early morning New Year's Day on the lake.
